Dyslexia Training for Volunteer Tutors
This four week class (24-30 hours) will provide participants an overview of dyslexia, instruction on how to provide remediation based on the Orton-Gillingham approach for decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling) mono- and poly-syllabic words, how to teach reading comprehension, and how to write effective lesson plans. Participants will complete online content, watching demonstration videos, downloading instructional tools and guides, and interact with instructors via discussion boards. Participants have 24 hours/day, 7 days/week access to course content for the duration of the course.
Participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a two-hour webinar, What is Dyslexia, with the presenters. The date and time will be determined by the consensus of the participants. If a participant cannot attend the webinar live, it will be archived and can be viewed at a later time.
This program is sponsored by an Adult Education Block Grant, administered by Santa Barbara City College and the Santa Barbara Public Library. Community partners include Dyslexia SB.
